Braces appointment # 1

So today around 10am I went in for my dentist appointment. The lady sat me down and started taking off the elastics and wire out. My teeth are super sensitive so it hurt, but I pulled through. Then the doctor looked inside my mouth and said she was gonna get me started on rubber bands. So then the nurse put a set of new elastics and wire in. However, for two of my brackets they put a piece of metal to serve as elastics. I have no idea why, but that hurt so much. Then the lady put my rubber bands on and said I have to wear them 24/7 except when I eat and brush my teeth. I also have to change them 4 times a day. I wear them in triangle for. The connect at the bottom then I twist and connect the bottom ones to the top. The rubber bands hurt so bad! My teeth are so sore. It feels like the very first day I got my braces. I've had them for 3 months already. Anyway the dentist gave me two bags of rubber bands . Now without further ado here are my teeth pictures! (:

Braces.

So I got my braces on a couple hours ago and mind you, it was VERY traumatizing. Let me start from the beginning. I went in and they took off my spacers. Then the dentists assistant started to TRY ON my molar bands. She didn't even have them ready. So she kept putting in one and then another and then another. My lower left molar, the one all the way in the pack was the problem. The band wouldn't go in so she kept pushing down. Since she couldn't do it she called and the doctor. Wanna hear what the doctor said? She said the things you don't want to hear "hmm the is strange it won't go in" then she scrunched up her face. At that point I got scared 'cause I realized I was dealing with a bunch of idiots. After all the molar bands were put in with glue they put on some small circular things. Once again my lower left molar 'caused problems. It would not stop bleeding. Then the stupid dentist assistant cut the roof of my mouth. Finally all my molar bands were put in The lady got this REALLY hard toothbrush and started brushing my gum EXTREMELY HARD. The started to bleed (iknow thats bad) and she told me to rinse. I literally took like 15 minutes rinsing my mouth so that It wouldn't be bloody. Then the lady put some cheek retractors and a tongue block in my mouth. She washed them and put this blue liquid on it. It didn't taste bad, it was just really salty. I swear she left in on for maybe 15 minutes and then washed it off. Finally the doctor came and started to put on the brackets I didn't feel anything while she was putting them on. Then she told me to go rinse the glue off and it felt so weird having the brackets on. Then they put on the wire and they clipped it real nice. The lady said I couldn't eat any hard candy and stuff like that. Then she told me to pick a color for the ligs and since it was all new I picked silver so it wouldn't show as much. He put the ligs on and it felt like she was cutting the wire. I flinched the whole time. At last I had a mouth full of metal and a goody bag of stuff. My next appointment isn't until May 16 and I hope by then my teeth have shifted at least a little. I kept taking pills to alleviate the pain and I did some salt water rinses to help. Now here are my braces and all the stuff they gave me. (The pictures were taken 2 days later March 15, 2013)
1st picture is of my teeth.
2nd picture is of the stuff they gave me.

Separators (Spacers)

So today March 05, 2013 I went into my dentist. I honestly went in not knowing what they were going to do to me since my mom made the appointment and all. So I went in, and showed them my medical card. They told me to take a seat. After a short 10min wait I went in and sat on a chair to have my mouth inspected by some long spider like fingers wearing gloves. They had a spiral circle where they made me choose a color, I chose baby blue. The lady then got a dental instrument that kinda looked like pliers and started putting the spacers in. It didn't hurt it was just really uncomfortable. She put four on the top and four on the bottom. Spacers are really small circle rubber like things that are put in between the molars so that the dental bands are able to fit when installing braces. It's been about two hours since I got my spacers and my left side is starting to hurt just a little. My right side is fine it just feel like you have food stuck between your teeth. I'll post pictures of how my spacers look and a picture of the sheet the dentist gave me. When I smile or talk normally you can't really see them. My next appointment is March 13. I'll be getting my braces then.
1st picture is my top spacers (2 on each side)
2nd picture bottom spacer (2 on each side)
3rd picture is a side view of my spacers
4th picture is the paper I got at the dentist office.

Paperwork phase (pictures)

So I will be posting in this blog for a good couple of years or at least until the take off my braces. My name is Daisy and I'm 17 years old. I have an overjet and need braces, which I'm getting. I don't really want them 'cause I mean I like my teeth the way they are, but my parents don't. I've been looking at blogs about braces and sadly they don't document their experience with enough detail or pictures. I hope I'm able to provide that. So I don't have braces right now which means I can only talk about all the other jazz and paper work.

So my very first appointment (I was 16 at the time) at the dentist consisted of questions like weather I sucked my thumb as a baby (I didn't) or if I had any orthodontic treatment before (I did). Then my doctor explained what he would need to do in order to fix my teeth. Since we agreed to go through with his plan he schedule another appointment for us.

*Since my parents didn't have the money to afford braces I went to a orthodontist that would cover your braces for free with insurance ; however, they only accepted your insurance if your teeth were in really bad shape and they had to submit a form an they had to prove your teeth were bad*

On my 2nd appointment I went in and the they took some x-rays and a bunch of pictures of my teeth. Then they sent them to see if I qualified for free braces and If I did they said the would call me to schedule my next appointment. It took a total of 7 months for them to call me back and they said I qualified (thank god). So my next appointment is March 05, 2013 which is a couple days away. I'm not sure what they're going to do to me, but I'll make sure to put pictures and post them. Now without further ado here is what my teeth look like
The first four pictures are how my teeth look front, left, right and the last one gives you an idea of how big my bite is. The second picture lets you see how my teeth look normally when I smile.
